Introduction to Saxenda

We understand how difficult weight loss can be, especially when your dieting and exercise attempts have proven unsuccessful to date. If this is the case and you need a little bit of assistance, then Saxenda could potentially be the weight loss product for you.

So, what is Saxenda?

Saxenda is a 3mg prescription injectable medicine that, when used in accordance with its guidelines, can help you lose them up to 12 pounds.  Saxenda should be used by adults over 30kg  (approx. 3 stones) with a reduced-calorie meal plan and a high level of physical activity. The use of this medication omits Liraglutide, which is similar to a natural hormone in your body called Glucagon Like peptide GLP-1. This is released from the intestine after a meal – causing you to feel fuller and less hungry.

How do I take Saxenda and what results can I expect?

Saxenda should be injected into the skin in the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm – being careful that you do not enter a vein or muscle while administrating the medicine. It may sound tricky, but don’t worry, your nurse or practitioner will show you how it’s done! Treatment is initiated at a low dose, which will gradually be increased over the first five weeks of treatment, this is to ensure that no serious side effects arise before increasing the dose. The starting dose of Saxenda is 0.6mg once a day for one week – where the dose should then be increased by 0.6mg each week until the recommended dose of 3.0mg once a day is reached – this is important in relation to climatizing your body to the medication. Saxenda can be taken at any time, independent of meals.

It is important that you ensure that the injection site has been cleaned by rubbing alcohol before any injection is undertaken. Do not share your pen device with anyone else – even if you change the needle beforehand – as this could cause serious infection in both parties.
