There are many types of chemical skin peels, which can be customised to suit each person’s individual needs. An experienced practitioner will ensure that the peel they recommend for you is suitable for your skin colour, texture and needs.
Our UK clinics offer skin peels in a variety of strengths to suit differing requirements. Chemical peels are generally categorised as mild, medium and deep. Mild peels including the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel do not penetrate below the epidermis (top layer of the skin). Medium peels such as TCA (trichloroacetic acid) reach the surface of the middle and thickest layer of the skin (the dermis) and deep peels including Phenol chemical peels reach the deeper levels of the dermis.
The treatment takes around half an hour, but it may be longer depending on the product and treatment chosen. A chemical solution is applied to the area being treated and you will feel an initial warm sensation as the chemical becomes active. A post-peel cream is then applied. Two to three days later, your skin will begin to peel to reveal the healthy new skin beneath.
Skin peels can be combined with many of our other treatments, both non-surgical and surgical, such as face lifts.
Our skin peel treatment is a superficial, controlled professional peel used by trained professionals. It is a deeper peel than you could achieve at home, as the chemicals used are more intensive.
Peels are not painful, but you can expect a warm sensation during the acid solution’s action on the skin. The acid solution is removed after a set time and soothing creams and serums are applied.
Depending on your skin type and the intensity of the peel, you may experience some redness, temporary dryness or superficial peeling/flaking. These symptoms are normal and they will diminish progressively and should disappear completely within 3 days. The use of the pre- and post-peel products will minimise the potential after effects.
Yes, peeling can be done alone but will also work well in combination with other aesthetic treatments such as fillers or anti-wrinkle treatment. Your practitioner can recommend the best combination of treatments for your skin type and personal requirements.
We want you to make a fully informed decision before you go ahead with treatment, so we offer a private consultation free of charge. At your consultation, you’ll meet with a cosmetic practitioner to discuss the treatment options available and whether skin peels treatment is the most suitable procedure for your needs. You’ll be able to ask questions about all aspects of the treatment, from the areas that can be treated to aftercare and the results you can expect. Your practitioner will be with you every step of the journey. They will give you a personal quotation of costs and information about finance options, the expected timescale and our treatment facilities.
At your consultation, you can book your treatment if you feel ready, but there’s no obligation to go ahead. Cosmetic treatment is a big step and you may want to take time to do more research and think about your decision. We’ll give you an information booklet, which provides comprehensive information on your procedure and aftercare. This is an important resource and we require customers to read the detailed information it contains. You’ll also find lots of helpful information here on our website – you can read about THG’s cosmetic treatment expertise and inspiring stories from some of our customers. Our clinic teams are available to discuss any concerns you may have. And when you feel ready, they can book you in for your procedure. We also have a 14-day ‘cooling off’ period in place, which means that if you change your mind about the procedure after booking within that period, you will not be charged.
On the day of your treatment, your clinic team will make your experience as comfortable as possible. Professional skin peeling involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin to induce a controlled deep exfoliation, improving the quality and radiance of the skin. Our skin peel is a professional dermatological treatment, which can help treat fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, sunspots and hyperpigmentation, matt and dull complexion, loss of skin tone, acne and acne scarring, and large or open pores. Our most popular peel is the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel. This peel has a low level of salicylic acid, a blend of lactic and glycolic acids and extra calming agents including Willow Bark and Liquorice Root, which help to soothe the skin.
