Eyelid surgery is most suitable for patients who have wrinkles and/or drooping layers of skin on their eyelids.
The procedure removes excess skin and fat in the eyelids to provide tauter skin, and aims to achieve a fresher-looking eye area.
During your consultation, your surgeon will explain that the skin will continue to age. It is important to understand that the ageing process will not stop following eyelid surgery.
In the case of eyelid surgery, an incision is made close to the natural crease of the eyelid. During a facelift, incisions are made in the natural crease lines. In both procedures, post-operative scarring should fade over time.
This depends on your individual requirements. One of the experienced surgeons we work with can advise you which procedures would be most suitable to achieve the results you are looking for.
We want you to make a fully informed decision before you go ahead with surgery, so we offer a private consultation at your local clinic free of charge. At your consultation, you’ll meet with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss the eye area reshaping options available and whether eyelid surgery is the most suitable procedure for your needs. You’ll be able to ask questions about all aspects of the surgery, from eye shaping to aftercare and the results you can expect. You’ll also meet your patient care coordinator, who will be with you every step of the journey. They will give you a personal quotation of costs and information about finance options, the expected timescale, our surgical facilities and door-to-door transport services.
At your consultation, you can book your surgery if you feel ready, but there’s no obligation to go ahead. Cosmetic surgery is a big step and you may want to take time to do more research and think about your decision. We’ll give you a patient information booklet, which provides comprehensive information on your procedure and aftercare. This is an important resource and we require patients to read the detailed information it contains. You’ll also find lots of helpful information here on our website – you can read about our surgeons’ qualifications, THG’s cosmetic surgery expertise and inspiring stories from some of our patients. Our patient care coordinators are available to discuss any concerns you may have. And when you feel ready, they can book you in for your procedure. We also have a 14-day ‘cooling off’ period in place, which means that if you change your mind about the procedure after booking within that period, you will not be charged.
On the day of your surgery, your medical team will make your experience as comfortable as possible and you’ll meet your surgeon again before the procedure. Upper blepharoplasty involves making a curved incision across the natural crease of the eyelid skin. The incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eye. Excess fat and skin tissue is removed to lift and open up the eye area. Eyelid surgery is performed under general anaesthetic.
We’ll be here throughout the recovery process to help you recuperate quickly. For eyelid surgery performed under general anaesthetic, you normally need to stay in the hospital where your surgery has taken place for one night following your procedure. Each patient is given a personalised care plan, developed with the advice of their surgeon. All THG hospitals are equipped to the highest standards of clinical care and patient comfort. Following your surgery, your eyes will be swollen and bruised and you may have a dressing of sterile tape over your stitches. Your vision may be blurred to start with and we recommend taking two weeks off work to make a full recovery.
At THG, we offer a full package of aftercare support with all our cosmetic surgery procedures to give you complete peace of mind. You’ll benefit from the following aftercare: · Unlimited post-op appointments with a member of our clinical team whenever you need them · Surgical cover for 3 years – revision surgery where clinically indicated · Additional days’ stay in hospital where needed · Additional medication and dressings at no extra cost · Emergency telephone support which you can use at any time
