Breast enlargement surgery with The Hospital Group

We’re the UK’s most trusted weight loss & cosmetic surgery provider

Celebrate a curvy, confident you

A confident you comes from the inside and out. It’s the feeling of being who you want to be and looking how you want to look. If there are changes you’d like to make, we’re here to help you achieve the body you want to have.

If you feel that fuller breasts would help create your perfect look, you’re in good company. Breast enlargement, or augmentation, is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the UK, with tens of thousands of patients choosing to have breast augmentation every year.

Breast enlargement, or a ‘boob job’, adds volume to the breasts, making them larger and rounder by inserting breast implants. If you’re unhappy that your breasts are flat, asymmetrical or lacking volume due to pregnancy, weight loss or ageing, a ‘boob job’ could help create a fuller, curvier shape. One of the leading cosmetic surgeons we work with can help you choose the right size and shape of breast implants for the result you want to achieve.

Say yes to a new look. Get in touch and start your journey to a new you today.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask your surgeon any questions as part of your consultation, but to start the ball rolling here are the answers to some that our patients most frequently ask.

Breast Enlargement FAQs

Breast enlargement surgery is generally safe, and our experienced cosmetic surgeons have the knowledge and skills to ensure your procedure goes as smoothly as possible and you live comfortably with your implants, with no complications. As for any risks related to breast enlargement surgery, your cosmetic surgeon will talk these through with you at your consultation.

You’ll be under general anaesthetic during your surgery, so you won’t feel any pain. Afterwards, you might feel a bit sore for a few days, but taking painkillers should help with this. Once your breasts have healed and your implants have settled, you shouldn’t feel any discomfort.

Yes, you could still be able to breastfeed if you have breast implants. If the incision for your implants was made through your armpit or under your breast, then this is unlikely to affect your ability to breastfeed. However, if you have an incision around your areola, then this might pose a problem. Your cosmetic surgeon will be happy to discuss your options around implant method and breastfeeding.

At The Hospital Group, we use breast implants from the world’s leading supplier. We offer Motiva and Mentor implants, and your surgeon can advise you on the best option for you. Motiva breast implants: · 5 years capsular contracture cover · Unique Q inside safety technology – next generation of breast implants · BluSeal – patented barrier layer indicator · TrueMonobloc – high performance shell · Choice of two controlled surfaces – velvet or silk. We also offer Mentor implants, which offer other benefits, which you can discuss with your surgeon when you book a consultation.

Breast enlargement surgery normally takes between one and two hours under general anaesthetic.

‘Over’ or ‘above the muscle’ procedures involve placing the breast implant in front of your breast muscle, which means it’s more superficial and sits just below the breast tissue. This might be the best option for you if you have some breast tissue already or if you’re restoring fullness to deflated breasts. ‘Under’ or ‘behind the muscle’ refers to an implant that sits behind the breast muscle. This is suitable for patients with very small breasts who have very little breast fat. This method reduces the likelihood of your breast implants showing and gives a more natural looking result but it’s more difficult to place larger implants this way. Your surgeon will discuss with you the results you want to achieve from breast surgery and will advise the best implant placement for your body.

After discussing the look you want to achieve, your surgeon will make his/her recommendations on which size of implant to go for and explain their choice to you. Although your surgeon will be able to give you an estimation of your new breast size based on the implant size and the current size of your breasts, we can’t guarantee exactly what size your breasts will be after surgery.

Yes – in fact, if your breasts have lost volume, your surgeon might also recommend having a breast uplift in order to achieve the look you want.

Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) is an extremely rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), a cancer involving the cells of the immune system. ALCL can affect 1 in 24,000 patients who have breast implants. It is important to emphasise the extremely low probability of ALCL occurring in patients with breast implants. The majority of cases are easily treated by removing both the implant and the surrounding capsule.

Motiva Implants® include a microchip embedded in the silicone gel. When scanned by a handheld reader, a unique electronic serial number (ESN) gives healthcare providers and patients access to verify the implants without invasive surgery. The company have released a safety notice regarding the maximum magnetic field a patient can go under when scanned under an MRI. The notice is in relation to a specific MRI scanner, 7 Tesla scan. The 7 Tesla MRI scanner availability is very limited, and mostly used in investigation centres for head and extremities and not the upper chest area. In summary, it is highly unlikely, if not impossible for a patient with Motiva implants to undergo a scan over 3 Tesla. On behalf of Motiva, we would like to inform our patients that have had Motiva implants that it is safe to undergo a scan with a 3 Tesla MRI scanner. There is no significant risk to patients. You can find out more information you can visit Motiva’s Q&A section:

You may be able to return home the same day, but many of our patients require an overnight stay in one of our hospitals. We’ll discuss what we think is best with you before we book your surgery.

Breast implants are not designed to last forever, but they don’t have a specific lifespan. Most surgeons say it’s wise to have your implants replaced between 10 to 20 years after the original procedure. Even if you haven’t experienced any problems with them, we recommend getting your implants checked over by a surgeon around 10 years after your surgery to make sure everything’s still okay.

You can expect minor scarring from your breast enlargement surgery, but these usually fade significantly over time and become much less noticeable. Your surgeon will explain to you where the incisions will be made to place your implants; one method leaves a scar under the breast hidden in the crease, or your surgeon might use an approach where the incisions are made around the areola or through the armpit.

It’s worth taking the first week after your surgery off work to give yourself some time to recover, and you might feel sore during this time. Every patient is different, but you should see the final results of your surgery within six to eight weeks. We’ll also give you plenty of advice, as well as a personalised care plan along the way.

The price of breast enlargement surgery varies between patients, as everyone is different and has their own needs. You’ll get a personal quote for how much your breast enlargement surgery will cost during your initial consultation. We offer finance options, so you can spread out the cost of your procedure if you’d rather do this than pay for it in one lump sum.

Breast enlargement step-by-step

We want you to make a fully informed decision before you go ahead with surgery, so we offer a private consultation at your local clinic free of charge. At your consultation, you’ll meet with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss the breast enlargement options available and whether the surgery is the most suitable procedure for your needs. You’ll be able to ask questions about all aspects of the surgery, from implant size and aftercare to the results you can expect. You’ll also meet your patient care coordinator, who will be with you every step of the journey. They will give you a personal quotation of costs and information about finance options, the expected timescale, our surgical facilities and door-to-door transport services.

At your consultation, you can book your surgery if you feel ready, but there’s no obligation to go ahead. Cosmetic surgery is a big step and you may want to take time to do more research and think about your decision. We’ll give you a patient information booklet, which provides comprehensive information on your procedure and aftercare. This is an important resource and we require patients to read the detailed information it contains. You’ll also find lots of helpful information here on our website – you can read about our surgeons’ qualifications, THG’s cosmetic surgery expertise and inspiring stories from some of our patients. Our patient care coordinators are available to discuss any concerns you may have. And when you feel ready, they can book you in for your procedure. We also have a 14-day ‘cooling off’ period in place, which means that if you change your mind about the procedure after booking within that period, you will not be charged.

On the day of your surgery, your medical team will make your experience as comfortable as possible and you’ll meet your surgeon again before the procedure. Breast enlargement involves making incisions in your breasts, either in the crease under your breast, around the nipple or towards your armpit. This allows for your breast implants to be carefully positioned either in front of or behind the pectoral (chest) muscle. Breast enlargement surgery usually takes between one and two hours under general anaesthetic.

We’ll be here throughout the recovery process to help you recuperate quickly. For breast enlargement surgery you may need to stay in the hospital where your surgery has taken place for one night following your procedure. Each patient is given a personalised care plan, developed with the advice of their surgeon. All THG hospitals are equipped to the highest standards of clinical care and patient comfort. Following your surgery, it’s normal for your breasts to feel sore for a few days and we’ll advise you on the type of bra you need to wear. We also recommend that you take a week off work to give your body plenty of time to heal. Although your breasts may feel slightly swollen at first, they’ll settle in six to eight weeks when you’ll be able to see the final results.
