Our liposculpture procedure is generally suitable for patients who have stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet or exercise, and who want to achieve fat loss and body contouring. Fat removal areas may include the tummy, buttocks, chin, arms and knees. A number of areas can be treated in the same session. A consultation with a surgeon can help you identify the results you could expect.
Liposuction can take between one and three hours, depending on how much fat has to be removed and the areas being treated.
You will normally need to stay in hospital for one night if you have a general anaesthetic. We’ll discuss what we think is best with you before we book your surgery.
This can be anything between three and four litres of fat per operation. For anything more than this, we would recommend multiple surgeries.
Stubborn fat deposits that can’t be removed by diet or exercise usually occur in areas such as the stomach, thighs, buttocks, sides, back, chest or chin. Liposuction is a fat removal procedure designed to reduce areas of excessive fat in areas that can be resistant to fat loss. It isn’t a weight loss procedure, but enables you to target specific problem areas.
We want you to make a fully informed decision before you go ahead with surgery, so we offer a private consultation at your local clinic free of charge. At your consultation, you’ll meet with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss the body reshaping options available and whether liposuction is the most suitable procedure for your needs. You’ll be able to ask questions about all aspects of the surgery, from fat removal and aftercare to the results you can expect. You’ll also meet your patient care coordinator, who will be with you every step of the journey. They will give you a personal quotation of costs and information about finance options, the expected timescale, our surgical facilities and door-to-door transport services.
At your consultation, you can book your surgery if you feel ready, but there’s no obligation to go ahead. Cosmetic surgery is a big step and you may want to take time to do more research and think about your decision. We’ll give you a patient information booklet, which provides comprehensive information on your procedure and aftercare. This is an important resource and we require patients to read the detailed information it contains. You’ll also find lots of helpful information here on our website – you can read about our surgeons’ qualifications, THG’s cosmetic surgery expertise and inspiring stories from some of our patients. Our patient care coordinators are available to discuss any concerns you may have. And when you feel ready, they can book you in for your procedure. We also have a 14-day ‘cooling off’ period in place, which means that if you change your mind about the procedure after booking within that period, you will not be charged.
On the day of your surgery, your medical team will make your experience as comfortable as possible and you’ll meet your surgeon again before the procedure. Liposuction involves inserting of a small tube-like syringe (called a cannula) through a small incision in the skin. The excess fatty deposits are then drawn through the tube to help achieve a smoother, more defined profile. The procedure is usually carried out under general anaesthetic. The procedure usually takes between one and three hours, depending on the number of areas that you want to treat.
We’ll be here throughout the recovery process to help you recuperate quickly. For liposuction you will normally need to stay in hospital for one night following your procedure. Each patient is given a personalised care plan, developed with the advice of their surgeon. All THG hospitals are equipped to the highest standards of clinical care and patient comfort. You may be advised to wear a compression garment during the day for between two and six weeks following the procedure. The improved overall appearance of the treated areas will become apparent in the months following the procedure.
At THG, we offer a full package of aftercare support with all our cosmetic surgery procedures to give you complete peace of mind. You’ll benefit from the following aftercare: Unlimited post-op appointments with a member of our clinical team whenever you need them Surgical cover for 3 years – revision surgery where clinically indicated Additional days’ stay in hospital where needed Additional medication and dressings at no extra cost Emergency telephone support, which you can use at any time
