Thigh Lift Surgery

The appearance of saggy thighs can be a consequence of rapid weight loss. If you have lost a lot of weight, whether through diet, exercise or surgery, you may find that you are left with excess skin which may hang in unattractive folds.

Very often, if there is a lot of loose skin it won't "go back" and no amount of cream or exercise can bring back the right tone and shape to your body.

With age, it can worsen and start to hang even more, limiting choices of clothing and causing embarrassment on the beach or at the swimming pool. Our expert Surgeons can help you achieve slim, toned thighs with specialist thigh lift surgery to remove the excess skin and tissue and reveal a much sleeker, younger shape.

Thigh Lift Surgery: What's Involved

Thigh lift surgery demands precise surgical skill as well as fine appreciation of body aesthetics. The procedure is not just about removing excess skin, the Surgeon also needs to resculpt the thigh area to produce the right body shape.

STEP 1: Excess skin is removed from the inner thigh.  This may extend from the knee to the groin area

STEP 2: Liposuction may be used if required to sculpt and shape the thighs to give a pleasing silhouette

STEP 3: After removal of the excess skin and reshaping of the thigh area, the skin is carefully rejoined. The Surgeon will use great skill here to give the best possible result in shape and scarring. Immediately after surgery, the patient has a much slimmer upper leg shape. The scarring will improve and fade with time

faqThigh Lift Surgery: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the procedure carried out?

The procedure is carried out under General Anaesthetic and you will stay overnight before you return home.

Q: What about recovery?

Thigh lift patients are advised to take 2 weeks off work and avoid lifting or driving for 4 weeks. You will receive individual advice on this at your consultation with your surgeon, depending on your requirements and general health.

Q: Will the thigh lift leave scars?

The surgeon will seek to conceal any incision lines within natural contours, although some scarring may be visible and all scars are permanent. Scarring can take around a year to fade from red to white. However, the improvement in your profile “beneath clothes” will be practically immediate.

Q: How do I find out if it's right for me?

An appointment with a consultant cosmetic surgeon is an opportunity to have an open and frank discussion about what aspects of your arms you are unhappy with, how the condition may have arisen and the improvements you would like to achieve. Your general health will also be assessed and the surgeon will recommend the best course of treatment. If you wish to have excess fat removed, rather than excess skin, liposuction may be a more suitable alternative.

Q: What other procedures should I consider?

If you have lost a lot of weight, you may also be considering other procedures. A thigh lift may be combined with a buttock lift. You may also consider abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), buttock lift, body lift or arm lift. There is a limit to the amount of surgery that can be completed on one day, but our Surgeons and Patient Care Coordinators can recommend a phased plan to give you the best results and ensure good recovery between each surgery session. We also offer finance schemes to make the cost of surgery easier to plan for.
