John Hatchman - Gastric Band Patient

Before

John's weight issues exacerbated his diabetes and sleep apnoea problems, so he decided to do something about it.

John had struggled with his weight for nearly 15 years and had tried every diet under the sun. He had severe type 2 diabetes for which he was insulin dependent. He also suffered with sleep apnoea, a condition caused by obesity.

I could see the harm I was doing to myself and was just fed up of being fat.

John spoke to The Hospital Group and was fitted with a gastric band in June 2008. He went from a size 40 inch waist to 32 inch, an XXXL shirt to M.

I can't tell you how much better I feel and my diabetes has gone, as has my sleep apnoea. Everyone has been absolutely amazed. My wife, Trudy, thinks it's absolutely brilliant I'm a new man. For the first time in my life I feel good about myself.

I'm a huge believer in this surgery. I often talk to people that are booked in for surgery to ease their worries and give them advice on living a healthy life after surgery.
