got his fantastic new smile!
For many years I've been very self conscious about my teeth. They had gaps,
stains and discolouration. I couldn't believe that I had let my teeth get into such
a state. The fact that I've "never been too keen on seeing a dentist" certainly
hasn't helped either.
I felt like I never smiled, at least not in the true sense. It's always been more
of a smirk or a grin, as I felt self conscious about the appearance of my teeth
to do a "full" smile. I always thought people were looking at them when I smiled,
which knocked my confidence. I even developed "teeth envy". What I mean by this
is that I would actually look at other
people, and wish I had their teeth! I think
it was at this stage that I realised that I needed to do something about them, and
so I did.
I had heard about NuSmile Veneers and discovered that with no drilling or pain my
teeth could be improved. I was very interested after I read that - after all who
likes pain!
I arranged a consultation, during which I went though my medical questionnaire.
I was asked what I was unhappy with in particular, and explained that the gaps,
shape and discolouration were my main areas of concern. I explained that I was nervous
of dentists and was reassured when told the procedure was non-invasive.
I had a clinical examination and was told my teeth were in good shape apart from
concerns I had raised. I also had an x-ray taken. It was recommended that I had
between 8 to 10 veneers, and an impression was made. At this time I also selected the colour
I would like my teeth to be, from a special colour chart. My impression
would them be sent away and my NuSmile veneers would be ready to fit in about 2
weeks.
I must say the whole experience was very relaxing and I didn't have the "fear
factor" that I would usually associate with a visit to the dentist. My teeth were cleaned and the veneers were placed for me to check that I was happy with the colour.
I was shown them in the mirror and I asked if they could be made a little lighter
in colour.
The veneers were placed and bonded
to my teeth. The excess resin was removed, and
it was explained that it was my new veneers that were being shaped and no changes
were made to my existing teeth. It took around 1 hour and 20 minutes in total. I
then sat up and looked at the results in the mirror - WOW!
When I saw my new teeth for the first time I was in shock, I couldn't speak. I think
the dental team thought I didn't like them and offered to remove them. My ability
to speak soon came flooding back and I told them not to touch a thing, my actual
words were probably not printable because after waiting so long for a smile to be
proud of I wasn't prepared to have them taken away.
My friends and family can't believe the
way my teeth now look. When I told them
it literally took 1 hour 20 minutes, with no anaesthetic, no drilling and no pain
many of them have decided to have a consultation for themselves!
I now have a new found confidence in dentists and I have regular check-up's, and
stick to my new dental regime to keep my teeth looking as good as they do now.
