Before Gastric Band

Tina Malone, actress of Channel 4’s series Shameless, appeared on This Morning to talk about her gastric band success and her hopes of having a baby.

The bubbly blonde showcased her new slimline figure, whilst revealing her plans to start a family with toy boy husband, Paul Chase.

The actress talked openly about her problems with food, admitting at one point she thought she might die, because she couldn’t control her eating habits.

Talking about her problems she said: “I’ve always battled with my weight and remember feeling very fat.”

“I increasingly got worse over the years and only two years ago I was 19 stone two pounds. I felt desperate and thought they are going to have to roll me on to set or I’m going to keel over and die.”

Tina, who recently married fiancé Paul Chase, has dropped four dress sizes after having a gastric band fitted with The Hospital Group. She hopes to lose a further three stone so that she can achieve the size 10 figure she has always dreamed of.

When talking about her body before the bariatric surgery Tina added: “I had no neck or differentiation between my bust and my waist… I’m now the happiest I’ve been in 20 years. I’m in a really good place physically and mentally.”

Those worried about their weight can come to The Hospital Group for a consultation with an expert bariatric surgeon.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “When people look good on the outside it naturally follows that people feel much better and more confident within themselves.

“The positive affect that weight loss surgery can have on a person goes far beyond purely aesthetic means. As Tina herself can testify, weight loss surgery can help people to lead a much healthier and fuller lifestyle.

“Obesity surgery is by no means an easy option, but it can provide lasting, dramatic results that can change a person’s life.

“At The Hospital Group we offer a number of solutions for those who are struggling to control their weight. Our surgeons and staff are committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.”

Leading Weight Loss Provider Launches Specialist Drinks Range For Bariatric Patients

Monday, August 30th, 2010

The UK’s number one weight loss provider has developed a range of drinks and shakes specially tailored for those undergoing bariatric surgery.

The Hospital Group recognised that it is very difficult to find a liquid diet which is both nutritious and well balanced. They therefore saw the need to develop a product which would be suitable for patients’ dietary needs both pre and post-operatively.

The CliniKcal range includes chocolate, strawberry and banana shakes for those who need to follow a strict diet before undergoing surgery and can also be used by dieters looking for a fast and simple weight loss plan. It can be made by using milk or water depending on a patient’s dietary requirements and a shaker bottle is supplied with every order.

As well as the shake, the range also includes a multivitamin drink which can aid healing and recovery. The Multivitamin drink 30 contains vitamins, mineral, fruit extracts and anti-oxidants and is available in two delicious flavours- citrus and passion fruit, to please every palette.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Undergoing any form of surgery has an effect on the body and our team of patient care co-ordinators and medical staff work very closely with our patients to ensure they are in the best physical condition prior to treatment.

“We are always looking to continually improve our service and the development of these drinks means our patients are in the best physical condition for optimal recovery.

“This is the first time anyone has been able to provide such unique and tailored products for those who are undergoing weight loss surgery.

“Gastric band, bypass and sleeve patients all need a liquid diet both pre and post operatively, while gastric balloon patients follow a liquid diet after the procedure. Using these drinks means patients no longer have to worry about if they are getting the right vitamins and minerals.

“At The Hospital Group our consultants are on hand to offer professional advice on combating obesity and ensure that the patient understands weight loss surgery isn’t a quick fix and they would need to work with their choice of treatment to maintain a more manageable and healthier weight.”

A 7 day supply of shakes can be bought in The Hospital Group’s clinics for £75.00 and the MultiVitamin drink can be purchased for £39.99 for 30 sachets.

NHS Ops Increase But Private Hospitals Still Bearing The Weight Of Bariatric Procedures

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Despite the news that the number of people undergoing surgery to help them lose weight on the NHS has increased ten-fold in seven years, the UK’s number one provider of weight loss surgery, The Hospital Group, are still seeing a huge boom in the demand for bariatric procedures.

While the report by The British medical Journal found operations such as gastric banding and bypasses rose from 238 a year to more than 2,543 in 2007 on the NHS, The Hospital Group reported that they have performed 5,277 gastric operations in the last three years alone.

Along with surgery partner Why Go Abroad, the huge number of operations booked with The Group reflects a growing trend of people forced into going private in their quest for a perfect, healthier body as the NHS buckles under the strain of demand.

According to official guidelines, patients should only be offered obesity surgery if they have a body mass index of 35 or over and are at risk of serious conditions such as diabetes and cannot lose weight by themselves. These guidelines have caused worry amongst specialists who say that the wrong people are receiving weight loss surgery whilst others, who are in desperate need of the surgery, are missing out on its benefits.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “This latest news indicates that the NHS are finally realising the true extent of the benefits of bariatric surgery. Despite this, the guidelines mean that people who are in desperate need of a gastric band, balloon or bypass are not eligible, or face long waiting lists.

“Last year, our Real Cost of Obesity report showed that being overweight can have a significantly negative effect on quality of life, with 45 per cent of those polled admitting their weight prevented them from playing with their children, while one in 10 of those polled said their weight had held them back in the workplace.

“At The Hospital Group, people can be assured of a dedicated, professional service, with guaranteed results and a limited waiting time.”

Obese Nation not receiving the right help

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

With more than a million people in the UK classed as severely and morbidly obese, it‘s clear that Britain is in the middle of an obesity epidemic which shows little signs of slowing down.

New research into the matter has shocked and worried specialists with weight loss experts warning that the wrong people are receiving weight loss surgery whilst others, who are in desperate need of the surgery, are missing out on its benefits.

The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has revealed that of the 1,010,000 morbidly obese people in the UK there is only about 230,000 people who are both eligible and willing to have the surgery and fewer than two per cent of these people will actually receive any weight loss treatment.

Bariatric surgery can permanently induce major weight loss for those that are clinically obese and in 90 per cent of cases ‘cure’ diabetes.

Amongst serious weight loss, a gastric bypass or gastric band actually pays for itself within three-and-a-half years due to reduced drug costs and hospital admissions not to mention the individual’s renewed energy and efforts as a result of the weight loss.

Those who are worried about their weight and appearance should come for a consultation with leading weight loss surgery providers, The Hospital Group.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Many people struggle to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle but a gastric band, gastric bypass or gastric balloon can help to shed excess weight. In fact the obesity surgery procedures can dramatically alter a person’s lifestyle, helping them to not only lose weight but to achieve a much healthier future.

“This research shows that people who need help now may not be able to get it by waiting. This latest news is just another reason why people should seek an effective weight loss solution with The Hospital Group.

“The Hospital Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.”

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has grown from a small pharmaceutical company to one of the UK’s foremost cosmetic surgery providers. The Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.

One In Four Females Is A “Plus” Size

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

New research has revealed that one in four British women are now a size 18 or above.

More than 6.2 million women are now “plus” sizes which has contributed to the “average” dress size in the UK increasing to a 16.

Only a few years ago size 12 was the average for women but today a mere 31 per cent of the British female population can fit into this size.

This influx of larger ladies has led to high demand for extra large clothing, which has doubled in the last five years. And it’s not only women that require bigger sizes, larger menswear is also on the increase with a third wearing XL clothes.

But the main concern raised amongst those that took part in the research, was the lack of fashionable plus-size clothing available for XL male and females.

With 10.1 million fashion conscious women in the UK, which equates to nearly 40 per cent of the female population, wearing clothes sized 16 and above those carrying extra weight find it hard to get clothes that fit them properly.

For those who are unhappy with their weight, The Hospital Group offers consultations with expert bariatric surgeons who can offer professional advice and guidance tailored to individuals needs.

The Hospital Group is the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons which can give you a healthier lifestyle.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Not being able to fit into clothes properly can really knock somebody’s confidence and cause them to become depressed and in many cases have low self-esteem.

“It can be really hard for people who’ve battled with their weight for most of their life when they can’t make themselves feel and look good, but weight loss surgery can really help people to regain their confidence.

“At The Hospital Group our consultants are on hand to offer professional advice on combating obesity and ensure that the patient understands weight loss surgery isn’t a quick fix and they would need to work with their choice of treatment to maintain a more manageable and healthier weight.”

Unhealthy Britons Could Be Fined For Not Keeping In Shape

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Men and women across the UK who eat unhealthily could be denied free NHS treatments in the future, a report has warned.

Experts have predicted treatments including obesity drugs, complimentary therapies and fertility and dental treatment will no longer be free in 10 years time.

As well as being denied treatment, people could also face penalties if they refuse to change their unhealthy ways.

The report – Visions of Britain 2020 – maps out the potential impact of people eating unhealthily, exercising too little and drinking too much alcohol, despite Government health campaigns.

Dr Sarah Brewer, who was consulted for the report, said: “We all know that we should follow a healthy low-fat diet, eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, but how many of us actually do anything about it? Unless an unhealthy diet and lifestyle is penalised in some way no-one will change.”

Those who are worried about their appearance should come for a consultation with leading cosmetic and weight loss surgery providers, The Hospital Group.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “For those struggling to maintain a healthy weight there are a number of options such as bariatric surgery, to help shed excess stones. A gastric band or balloon can dramatically alter a person’s lifestyle, helping them to not only lose weight but to achieve a much healthier future.

Liposuction can be used to sculpt the body and for those looking for a surgical weight loss solution, we offer gastric balloon, band, sleeve and bypass to suit varying individual needs.

“Whatever you are looking to achieve, The Hospital Group provide comfortable and relaxing surroundings with experienced surgeons who can help people achieve the look they are after.”

Barbeque Binging Encourages Obesity

Friday, August 13th, 2010

male-obesityBarbeque binging is the latest health concern amongst experts after a study revealed that barbeques encourage obesity due to the high amount of calories they contain.

Recent research shows that barbeques give people the chance to pile their plates which encourages binge eating and leads to an unhealthy lifestyle.

The average barbeque plate is said to include two sausages, one and a half burgers, two chicken drumsticks, one and a half meat skewers, fish, a baked potato, a green side salad, pasta salad, a desert and fruit salad, all of which totals a staggering 3,000 calories. This exceeds the recommended daily intake of calories for men by 500 and by 1,000 for women.

But, it is not only calories that these dinners are packed with. According to Consensus Action on Salt & Health, there are also high levels of salt with a standard meal comprising a hotdog with mustard, a burger with cheese and BBQ sauce, a piece of marinated meat, some coleslaw, potato salad and plain crisps with dips having up to 12.11g of salt. This is more than double the recommended maximum of 6g for an adult.  Add to this the BBQ sauces that accompany these meats and salads, some of which contain more salt than sea water, and the meal packs a calorific punch that is sure to pile on the pounds.

With the UK in the middle of an obesity crisis that shows no signs of slowing down experts fear that more people could become overweight and enter into an unhealthy lifestyle this summer as they over indulge in fatty BBQs.

The number of people admitted for obesity to Hospitals in the UK has shot up nearly nine times in 10 years with last year’s numbers increasing by an astounding 60 per cent in just one year.

Those worried about their weight can come to The Hospital Group for a consultation with an expert bariatric surgeon.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Barbeques are all part and parcel of a British summer and it is easy to be tempted by the array of food on offer.

“Like all our favorite foods, there are hidden calories and salt levels which contribute to weight gain. It is important to keep an eye on the salt, fat and calorie content of foods.

“At The Hospital Group we offer a number of solutions for those who are struggling to control their weight.

Obesity surgery is by no means an easy option, but can provide lasting, dramatic results, which can change a person’s life and help them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.”

Higher Death Risk for Those with Bigger Waists

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

gastricbandNew research has revealed that people with a large waistline are destined to die early.

The study shows that fat around the stomach has been linked to severe health problems including type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol levels and heart disease.

These problems can occur when fat tissue surrounds organs in the abdominal area which experts believe is more dangerous than fat tissue located under the skin.

Medical expert Dr Eric Jacobs and his colleagues of the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia, examined the relationship between waist size and the risk of early death among 48,500 men and 56,343 women age 50 and above.

After taking body mass index (BMI) and other risk factors into consideration, they discovered that men over the age of 50 with a waist 47 inches or over, and women over the age of 50 with a waist 42 inches or over were twice as likely to die during the nine year long study.

The older a person is the slower the speed of the metabolism becomes causing weight gain and it is at this point that most people become less active and more stressed leading to an unhealthier lifestyle.

High levels of cortisol, the ‘stress hormone’ increase appetite and cause the body to crave fatty and sugary foods which effectively cause weight gain around the abdominal area.

Those worried about their weight can come for a consultation at The Hospital Group, the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons which can give you a healthier lifestyle.

Having weight loss surgery will not only make you look better, it will ensure you live longer. David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Surgery is not a quick fix option, but it can provide a long lasting result for those who have tried but consistently failed to lose weight by other means.”

“At The Hospital Group we can offer specialist surgeons who have maximum experience in this field.”

Obesity costs the NHS millions

Friday, August 6th, 2010

male-weightNew research has revealed that a quarter of all British people are eating themselves to death- costing the NHS millions every year.

With more and more people indulging in fast food and sugary treats the obesity problem in the UK shows no signs of waning as people pile on the pounds and put their health at risk.

The NHS currently spends around £5 billion a year helping out people with weight problems and with obesity levels on the increase it’s predicted the NHS can expect to spend up to £6.3billion by the year 2015.

In 2008 a staggering £45 million was spent by the NHS on specialist medical equipment which included super-size wheelchairs, reinforced beds and bigger operating tables.

Doctors across the UK have expressed fear over the obesity crisis with many worried that people are simply unaware of the health implications.  Not only does obesity raise the risk of health problems including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and depression but it can also shorten a person’s life.

Studies reveal that around 30,000 deaths a year in England alone are caused by obesity and reports estimate that one in 11 deaths are attributable to being overweight.

And the old adage of ‘eating for two’ when a woman is pregnant could be doing more harm than good as research shows that overweight mothers are more likely to encounter complications at birth as well as running the risk of having overweight babies.

With one in four people in Britain now classed as clinically obese the UK is in danger of becoming the most obese nation in Europe and is set to take over from Greece who is the only other country in the Europe with a higher obesity rate than us.

Patients who want to lose weight can be assured they will receive a top class service with The Hospital Group.

The Hospital Group is the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons which can give you a healthier lifestyle.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “There are a number of health afflictions associated with obesity which can seriously limit a person’s work, social and personal life.

“Those who want to lose weight and adopt a healthier lifestyle should consider a bariatric procedure, which can lead to dramatic weight loss and improve health.

“Those who come to The Hospital Group, can be assured of a dedicated, professional service, with astounding success rates and a limited waiting time. This latest news is just another reason to seek an effective weight loss solution with The Hospital Group.”

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has risen to become the UK’s biggest weight loss surgery providers, performing more gastric procedures last year than the NHS.

The Hospital Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.
