Rise in American women banishing ‘bingo wings’ with cosmetic surgery

Women in the USA have become more conscious of their bingo wings than ever before with arm lift procedures rising in recent years.

They have soared by more than 4,000 per cent in the last 10 years, with 15,000 operations performed last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

In Britain we do see a demand for this type of procedure but we do not carry out as many, however this could change. When trends occur in the USA we often see a pattern emerging in the UK, particularly with summer looming, people tend to want to feel better about their bodies.

In the USA, people undergoing arm lift surgery have increased from 300 in the year 2000 to over 15,000 in 2012, 98% of whom were women.

ASPS conducted a recent poll on which celebrity had the most favoured toned arms and results showed that women most admired Michelle Obama, followed by Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Biel and Demi Moore.

An arm lift procedure entails removing excess skin from beneath the arm. Liposuction can also be used to remove excess fat if required and can also streamline the shape of the arms. It is commonly performed following weight loss surgery to correct loose skin.
