A new survey has revealed that men are more susceptible to body image worries than was once thought, with 80 per cent saying they regularly discuss image concerns with family and friends.
The survey of 400 men, carried out by the University of the West of England’s Centre for Appearance Research in Bristol, revealed that the biggest worries for men were beer bellies, a lack of muscle and male breasts.
Other statistics to come out of the research showed that 59 per cent of men felt personally affected by ‘body talk’, and nearly one in five men said they felt fat every single day.
“This research really demonstrates that body image is an issue for everyone, although in men, especially middle-aged men, it has been woefully under-reported,” said Dr Phillippa Diedrichs, of UWE.
