Working On A Computer Makes You Hungry

gastricbandNew research has revealed an interesting reason as to why people pile on the pounds, and it’s not just through a lack of exercise.
The study, which took place at the University of Copenhagen, revealed that people are far more likely to reach for a fatty and sugary snack if they work on computers for part of their day.

Researcher Dr Chaput revealed that the mental stress from doing computer work causes changes in blood, sugar and hormone levels, tricking the brain into thinking it has lost calories and increasing appetite as a result.

The study examined one group of female students who were asked to sit at a computer whilst the other group were told to sit and relax for 45 minutes.

The results revealed that those working on computers burnt three more calories than those who simply relaxed. However, when given access to a buffet after the task, those who carried out the computer based assignment consumed far more food than then the relaxed group taking in a shocking 230 calories extra.

It is believed that TV and also computer games can also have the same affect, causing people to reach for junk food to satisfy their false hunger.

Those worried about their weight can come to The Hospital Group for a consultation with an expert bariatric surgeon.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Many people struggle with cravings and find it hard not to graze whilst they sit at their computers.
