Lunchtime Is A Fatty Affair

male-weight

In today’s society many Brits are pushed for time and resort to grabbing a quick bite to eat for lunch from their local supermarket.

Whilst this may seem harmless experts claim that seemingly nutritious lunchtime snacks are filled with unhealthy ingredients that most people don’t realise they’re eating – causing Brits to pile on the pounds.

A new survey by Which? revealed that a lunch grabbed on the go could contain more fat than the rest of your daily meals put together. With so many people across the UK in the dark about what they are actually eating it’s no surprise that so many people struggle with their weight on a daily basis.

By far the worst lunchtime offender is supermarket sandwiches which can contain as much salt as 9 bags of crisps and large quantities of fat, filling those who consume them with a calorie loaded meal that is sure to help them pile on the pounds.

With the maximum daily salt intake for adults at 6 grams many people eating pre-packaged sandwiches probably aren’t even aware they are eating half the recommended salt intake in one sitting.

But perhaps the most shocking revelation from the research is the fat content of lunchtime salad bowls. Whilst most people think they are picking a healthy lunchtime meal, they are in fact picking a meal high in calories and fat, with some salad pots containing more fat than a burger and fries.

Covered in tasty dressings and sauces laden with olive oil and mayonnaise, the salads become calorie fuelled meals that are high in fat.

The research shows just how hard it is for weight watchers to keep their weight down when so many foods that look healthy and nutritious are actually loaded up with calories, fat and salt, all of which contribute to an unhealthy body and help people to gain weight.

Those who are worried about being overweight should book a consultation with an expert bariatric surgeon at The Hospital Group.

The Hospital Group is the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “It can be extremely difficult for people trying to lose weight when so many foods appear to be healthy but in reality can actually cause people to pile on the pounds rather than lose them.

“Many people who come to the Hospital Group have spent years trying to lose weight. Unfortunately it is a very difficult process; people need a lot of help and support and in most cases that support system is not there.

“The Hospital Group only has the best weight loss surgeons with maximum experience in the field on hand to offer you expert advice; plus a support team of specialist dietitians and nursing staff .  Our aftercare package for gastric bands and bypasses includes 2 years of aftercare to help you get the best results after your procedure.”

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has risen to become the UK’s biggest weight loss surgery providers, performing more gastric procedures last year than the NHS.
