Top Channel 4 Doc Has Hair Transplant Op

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Health and body expert Doctor Christen Jessen has boosted his own self esteem by investing in a hair transplant.

The star of the popular Channel 4 show, Embarrassing Bodies, has opted to thicken the front of his thinning mop of blonde locks using the increasingly favoured technique.

Christian, 33, spent £4,000 having hair taken from the back of his scalp where it’s thick and implanted onto his receding hairline.

The health expert, who wears his locks in a distinctive curtains style, shot to stardom three years ago on Channel 4 show Supersize vs Superskinny.

He now advises patients on treatments to cure a range of delicate problems on Embarrassing Bodies. And he has a GP clinic in Harley Street where he first consulted a neighbouring specialist about his baldness last year.

Christian confessed to the News of the World: “Having talked to patients who had hair transplants on Embarrassing Bodies, I decided the time was right to get it done. I’m delighted with the results”.

Men in the United Kingdom seeking hair restoration can easily achieve a look like Dr Christian.

The Hospital Group, the UKs leading cosmetic surgeons, perform more hair restoration procedures than any other surgery provider, and only carry out natural hair transplants using the latest Follicular Hair Transplantation techniques.

Follicular Transplantation involves transplanting hair units, often with four or five hairs growing from one follicle, to a bald spot to generate growth.

Human hairs are genetically programmed to either be sensitive to the male hormone, which causing them to die, or to be permanently immune to the hormone and last a lifetime. Hair Transplantation uses the ‘lifetime growth’ hairs from around the back of the head, and transplants them in areas where the hairs have died.

Hair or Follicular Transplantation at The Hospital Group is a minor surgical procedure, taking little more than three hours.

The Hospital Group’s hair loss treatment and transplantation clinic was founded in 1992, and is staffed with industry experts at its dedicated Dolan Park Hospital in the Midlands.

Friday, April 30th, 2010

British women still want bigger boobs- with breast enlargement ops rocketing during the past five years.

Trend For DIY Cosmetic Procedures

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

A new survey conducted by the Good Surgeon Guide demonstrates the lengths that some women are willing to go to in order to maintain a youthful appearance.

According to the Guide, non-invasive treatments such as BOTOX™ are viewed by women as a safe procedure to perform on themselves.

The research revealed that 22 per cent of women admitted they would be happy to inject highly toxic BOTOX™ into their own face. This is compared with 11 per cent of women who are willing to cut their own hair, a much less risky procedure.

Although the shocking results revealed that 22 per cent of women would rather inject BOTOX™ into their own faces then cut their own hair, 54 per cent of the women surveyed were more cautious and said they would consider BOTOX™ as long as it was carried out by a trained professional.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, said: “BOTOX™ is a prescription only medicine and consumers should only seek treatments for BOTOX™ from recognised and trained medical aesthetic healthcare practitioners.  News of women being prepared to conduct potentially dangerous treatments on themselves is incredibly worrying.

“With The Hospital Group’s expert advice and procedures people can be assured of a safe, dependable solution to their wrinkles. As one of the UK’s leading providers of cosmetic surgery, anti-wrinkle treatments are part and parcel of the fantastic procedures we offer to perfect your look.”

Weight Loss Surgery Can Improve Your Health

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

New research has revealed that weight loss surgery can have a positive effect on the body’s immune system.
Scientists found that a modest reduction in weight can reverse damage that’s been done to cells responsible for the body’s immunity.

The study, involved 13 obese people with type-2 diabetes or pre-diabetes who followed a 24-week diet limiting them to between 1,000 and 1,600 calories a day, with gastric banding surgery at 12 weeks to restrict food intake.

Even a modest amount of weight loss, just six kg, was found to be enough to bring the pro-inflammatory immune cells, which circulate in the blood and promote coronary artery disease back to the level found in lean people and improve health.

Katherine Samaras, Associate Professor at the Garvin Institute of Medical Research, who conducted the study, said: “This is the first time it has been shown that modest weight reduction reverses some of the very adverse inflammatory changes we see in obese people with diabetes.

“Obesity is now a major cause of type-2 diabetes, with the situation currently at crisis point people must be made aware that excess fat will affect their immune system and ultimately their life expectancy.”

Those looking to shed those excess pounds and adopt a healthier lifestyle can come to The Hospital Group for a comfortable and professional consultation.

The Hospital Group is the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons.

Hair Loss Linked To DNA

Monday, April 26th, 2010

A baldness gene has been identified by scientists who now hope to develop a cure for male pattern baldness. Researchers have identified a genetic mutation involved in hypotrichosis simplex, a hereditary hair loss disorder. The disorder causes hair follicle miniaturization, a process in which hair follicles shrink and narrow, and thick hair is replaced by fine, brittle strands of hair.

Researchers say that the same process is also a key component of male pattern baldness.

Dr Angela Christiano, who led the study at Columbia University in New York, said manipulating the gene’s actions “may have an effect on hair follicle growth for the first time in humans”.

Previous research has already linked the gene to other hair loss disorders, but in this study researchers found the mutated gene inhibits a signaling pathway involved in hair growth.

By learning more about this pathway, known as the Wnt pathway, researchers say the discovery may lead to new and improved treatments for male pattern baldness and other hair loss disorders.

Weight Loss Surgery Could Lower Risk Of Pregnancy Complications

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Women who are seriously overweight and have weight loss surgery before pregnancy could help to lower the risk of pregnancy complications, including high blood pressure and diabetes.

Being overweight is incredibly common in the developed world, and being obese during pregnancy can lead to serious complications, including diabetes and pre-eclampsia.

For those women looking to lose weight, exercise and diet plans can be effective, but surgery is becoming increasingly more common.

Research indicates that women who have weight loss surgery and then go on to become pregnant could fare better during pregnancy than those women that remain obese.  A recent study looked at the health insurance records of 585 women in the United States, most of whom had gastric bypass surgery. The researchers at John Hopkins University found an 80 per cent reduction in the risk of preeclampsia and eclampsia among women who had surgery before pregnancy, along with a 74 per cent reduction in the risk of gestational hypertension and a 61 per cent reduction in the risk of chronic hypertension in pregnancy, all of which are known to cause pregnancy complications.

Wendy L. Bennett, assistant professor of medicine at the university said “We have long known that women who have these blood pressure disorders are not only at an increased risk for pregnancy complications in themselves and their babies, but also for chronic diseases in the future.  Can we prevent the development of these disorders in pregnancy with bariatric surgery? These findings suggest the answer is ‘yes.”

Those looking to lose weight can be assured they will receive a top class service with The Hospital Group.

The Hospital Group is the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons which can give you a healthier lifestyle.

The Hospital Group’s expert bariatric surgeons will advise on when to plan your pregnancy following weight loss surgery and any special requirements e.g. gastric band patients are advised to have their band relaxed during pregnancy to ensure full nutrition for mum and baby.

The Hospital Group also has reports of women who have conceived following weight loss surgery, where before their weight had caused fertility problems.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Weight loss surgery is not a quick fix option, but it can provide a long lasting result for those who have failed to lose weight by other means.

There are lots of health benefits which come following bariatric procedures. Those who come to The Hospital Group, can be assured of a dedicated, professional service, with astounding success rates and a limited waiting time. Eat Like The French And Stay Thin

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

French women are the envy of many ladies thanks to their seemingly effortless chic and slender figures. However, the secret to their slim and stylish super powers has now been revealed.

The French founded Dukan diet, which promises striking weight loss, has become so popular that it has taken the continent by storm.

Whilst French women swear by its long lasting slimming results, perhaps the diet’s popularity also comes down to the fact that you can largely eat what you like.

The Dukan Diet kicks off with a phase where you eat absolutely nothing but protein – just meat, fish, eggs and non-fat dairy products, which promises dramatic and rapid weight loss.

The seemingly dream diet then leads on into a structured, but simple long-term, real-food regime that ensures followers never regain the weight they have lost.

Once you reach the final stage of the diet you can eat whatever you like without guilt or restriction, as long as you stick to just one golden rule – eat only protein one day of the week for the rest of your life.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “At this time of year lots of people will be trying the latest diet fads to shape up for summer.

“Despite best efforts, some people will need a helping hand to lose weight. Obesity surgery is by no means an easy option, but can provide lasting, dramatic results, which can change a person’s life and help them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
