Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Invisible braces have become the latest craze amongst men searching for the perfect pearly whites.

Forget the latest fashionable male moisturizers or shaving creams, when it comes to looking good men are straightening their teeth instead.

Whilst women have usually been perceived as leading the way in beauty trends, new research by The Hospital Group has shown that men are also seeking the perfect Hollywood smile.

The number of men opting to cover up damaged, and stained teeth with Nusmile Veneers rose by a massive 506 per cent last year.

With celebrities like Simon Cowell choosing to have cosmetic dentistry, it’s no surprise that many men have followed suit in an effort to achieve that perfect smile.

Teeth whitening procedures were also up during 2009- with male whitening increasing by 150 per cent as opposed to just over 100 per cent for women.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Many celebrities have realised how important their smiles are and gone to a cosmetic dentist to perfect it. Tom Cruise is said to have invested in the invisible brace to get his flawless smile.

“At The Hospital Group we offer several cosmetic dentistry treatments including invisible braces, teeth whitening, Nusmile veneers, crowns and dental implants all of which are carried out by our dedicated and professional expert cosmetic dentists who want to help you get the look you are after.

The Fat Epidemic

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Hospitals saw a hefty rise in the number of people admitted for obesity last year.

The increase in just 12 months was 60% – and the number has shot up nearly NINE times in 10 years.

The NHS Information Centre, which released the figures, said: “The report highlights the impact of obesity on society and the NHS.”

The report said there were 5,020 admissions in 2007-08 in England with a primary diagnosis of obesity. This rose 60% to 7,990 in 2008/09.

It is more than eight times higher than the 950 recorded in 1998/9. There was also a dramatic rise in the number having surgery on the NHS to beat obesity – such as stomach stapling or gastric bands.

Figures more than doubled between 2006/07 and 2008/09, from 1,950 procedures to 4,220.

Those looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle and lose weight in 2010 can come for a consultation with an expert bariatric surgeon at The Hospital Group.

The Hospital Group is the UK’s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons.

Beauty Goes Up In Smoke

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

It is well known that smoking can cause a vast array of problems, many of which directly affect appearance. Dull wrinkly skin, stained teeth and weight gain are just a few that could plague smokers.

With the approach National No Smoking Day on 10th March 2010 people across Britain are being encouraged to stub out their cigarettes in an attempt to improve both health and looks.

Leading dermatologists have found the effects that smoking can have on the face are drastic. Heavy smokers can expect to get deep lines and wrinkles, particularly around the mouth and corners of the eyes, accompanied by skin that can be dulled by up to ten years due to the pale grey shade it turns.

Your waistline could also rise along with the risk of getting cellulite and the problems don’t stop there. Teeth are heavily affected by the nicotine and tar found in cigarettes which stain them and turn them a nasty yellowy brown colour.

Patients looking to reverse the damage to their appearance caused by smoking should look no further than The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgery providers.

For quick results, The Hospital Group offer non-surgical treatments such as anti wrinkle treatments, BOTOX®, facial fillers, chemical peels, teeth whitening and more in 19 clinics across the UK and Ireland.

For longer term results involving surgery, face lifts, liposuction and an extensive range of breast surgery procedures are just some of the treatments on offer.

The Bra That Really Gets Under Your Skin

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Doctors have developed a new surgical technique that acts like a support bra that you wear under your skin.
Conceived by South African plastic surgeons and currently being performed in Europe, the Internal Bra System has been designed to take the strain off the skin, similar to the function of a bra.

The operation differs from traditional breast uplift surgery as it involves implanting a cone shaped polyester mesh under the skin which, over time, gets incorporated into the breast as the body produces a fibrous tissue that holds the structure in place.

Although the surgery is in early stages of practice, trials in Holland have shown that 60 percent of women who have had the mesh implanted now go on a regular basis without a bra.

Whereas this may sound like uplifting news for those seeking an alternative to traditional implants, the operation is aimed at women with only a moderate degree of sagging.

For those who are looking for permanent, natural looking enhancement, The Hospital Group, one of the UK’s leading providers of cosmetic surgery, offers a number of breast surgery procedures including, breast enlargement, breast uplift and breast reduction procedures.

The Hospital Group offers a vast range of surgical implants as part of its Natrelle range. With over 500 different shapes, sizes and textures, the Natrelle implant allows for a much more bespoke breast, which the patient has decided upon herself with the help of a dedicated specialist.

‘Moobs’ Get A Lift As Procedure Figures Rise

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Plastic surgeons are reporting a record number of “man boob” reduction operations with the rise in demand surpassing that for all other cosmetic procedures – including women’s breast enlargement.

The latest figures published by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPs) showed operations to correct the condition, known as gynaecomastia, have grown by 80% in the UK.

Researchers blame the growing problem in the general rise in obesity, but add that there might be other factors, such as increased oestrogen in some processed meats.

Marius Muller, a former gynaecomastia patient at The Hospital Group, said: “Before surgery I used to hate seeing myself topless in the mirror. The surgery not only changed the way I felt about myself and body, but also how people perceive me.

“It gave me that added confidence which I lacked for so many years. Now, I can’t wait to get my top off on the beach.”

As well as the male breast reduction procedure, The Hospital Group also perform a number of other procedures helping men achieve their ideal body, including gastric bands, abdominoplasty and liposuction.

BOTOX Can Alleviate Migraines

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Several studies carried out by leading dermatologist’s claim that BOTOX™ can help ease the symptoms of migraines.

The studies claim that BOTOX™ treatment can help alleviate the pain of ocular migraines which can be triggered by hormonal changes, flashing lights and, in some cases, the chemicals found in food. If left untreated this type of headache can last for hours or even days.

BOTOX™, which is injected into the muscles of the brow, eyes and forehead, was given to migraine sufferers who reported dramatically less migraine pains and noted that they had fewer migraines on a weekly basis after the treatments.

In some studies investigators injected the sufferers with BOTOX™ into the back and side of their heads near the neck. This method proved successful, with several subjects claiming immediate relief of their headache.

Patients looking into BOTOX™ treatments should look no further than The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgery providers.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, said: “Consumers should only seek treatments for BOTOX™ from recognised and trained medical aesthetic healthcare practitioners.

“With The Hospital Group’s expert advice and procedures people can be assured of a safe, dependable solution to their wrinkles.

“As one of the UK’s leading providers of cosmetic surgery, anti-wrinkle treatments are part and parcel of a vast number of fantastic age preventative treatments available across our 19 clinics throughout the UK.”

Concerns Over Online Cosmetic Surgery Consultations

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Concerned experts have seen a rise in online cosmetic surgery consultations. The virtual visits involve prospective cosmetic surgery patients submitting their photos and medical history information to a panel of surgeons, who offer advice about various procedures – as well as competing price quotes.

Although advocates have argued that preliminary consultations via Skype, telephone or email can put a patient at ease before they schedule an office visit, the online consultations raise concerns as to the ethics and genuine expertise of diagnosing people through the Internet.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Anyone who is seriously considering having plastic surgery should come for a free consultation, where they will be given informed, expert advice in a relaxed atmosphere.

“At The Hospital Group, we pride ourselves on before and after care and our team of consultants and aesthetic cosmetic surgeons offer industry-leading standards of patient care which really set us apart.”

The Hospital Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.
