Body Parts we Love to Hate…

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Wobbly bellies have been revealed as women’s biggest flaw in a new study.

More than 59 per cent of the nation’s fed-up women would like to banish their flabby midriffs, which leave them feeling self-confident and unsexy. Instead, they would rather have less fat and a set of toned muscles in its place.

The second body bugbear unveiled in the study of 3,000 Brits by plastic surgeons The Hospital Group, was large thighs, with 42 per cent wishing they had slimmer legs.

A third would like to banish their muffin top, while 27 per cent would like to lose their bingo wings and another 27 per cent wish they had a better skin condition. Double chins, saggy boobs and wrinkles on the face were other body hang-ups suffered by British women.

Just four per cent of women claimed there was absolutely nothing they would like to change about their body.

However researchers found that men don’t share the same view with more than a third saying there is absolutely nothing they would like to change about their partner’s appearance.

A spokesman for The Hospital Group said: ‘’As we approach the New Year, women are turning their thoughts to what things they would like to change in 2010. For many, their biggest concern is their appearance, with stomachs at the top of the list. We have already had a lot of enquires about liposuction and tummy tucks for 2010 so hopefully next year will see the confidence of women rise as they become happier with their looks.’’

Researchers also revealed that four per cent of women are planning to have cosmetic surgery in 2010, with 12 per cent of those saying it’s already booked. A boob job is the most wanted procedure, closely followed by a breast reduction and tummy tuck. Liposuction and a nose job completed the top five.

One in 10 women have even been given money towards their plastic surgery dreams for Christmas, or had the procedure paid for completely as their gift from their partner or parents.

And the study found that the main reason for planning plastic surgery in 2010 is because women are unhappy with their appearance and lack confidence. But 23 per cent want to impress a man and another 21 per cent think it will help advance their career. Seven per cent even admitted they are considering cosmetic surgery simply because their other half wants them to.

David Ross added: “Liposuction and other cosmetic procedures can help people to change their life and feel better about their bodies.  Our consultants ensure that, as well as having an absolute need for the procedure, the patient understands that surgery isn’t a miracle cure and they would need to work to achieve the healthier lifestyle they desire”

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has risen to become the UK’s biggest weight loss surgery provider, performing more gastric procedures last year than the NHS.

Doctors Warn New Mums Against Dangerous Girdles

Monday, December 28th, 2009

British mothers have been urged against using weight loss girdles- after doctors said they could be a risk to women’s lives.  Increasing numbers of Brit mums are following stars such as Angelina Jolie in investing in a girdle to help them lose weight and take inches off their waistline.  But the Royal College of Midwives has now warned that the Cinch and similar abdominal binders could be a risk to women’s lives.  The makers of the Cinch claim it can help new mothers regain their figures ‘by tightening all the abdominal muscles with the dual front panels and further cinching with double side wings’.

A spokeSman for the RCM said: “It is not safe to wear them just after giving birth. I wouldn’t recommend it from a medical perspective.”

Mums desperate to get back in shape after giving birth are being offered a helping hand from The Hospital Group- with their new Mommy makeover. Now, mums who find that they are unhappy with the size and shape of their breasts along with their stomach can combine a breast augmentation with abdominoplasty in just one operation. Star Employee Scoops Top Award

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Taking the plunge has paid off for one worker- after she scooped a top award just three months after swapping careers.  Lisa Swaithe decided to ditch her career as an office manager and start work caring for patients at private healthcare clinic, The Hospital Group.  As patient care co-ordinator in Nottingham, Lisa has worked tirelessly to deliver information to patients around the clock.  And now, just three months into the job, Lisa has secured the accolade for outstanding service to patients.

The dedicated worker, 39, said she was overjoyed to receive the award which is only given to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Lisa said: “I enjoyed my job working in an office, but there came a time when I just wanted to be doing a bit more.  It has been great getting to meet people face to face and help advise them on the surgery options available with The Hospital Group.  It is amazing seeing the difference that cosmetic surgery can make to your life. Many people have waited years to go ahead with treatments, so when they do, they really appreciate it.

“Even though I have only been with The Hospital Group for a few months, the best part has been seeing people go from nervous and shy before they have surgery, to having lots of confidence when they leave the clinic. It is great to be appreciated in a job and they couldn’t be more supportive at The Hospital Group.”

Lisa now has £250 worth of vouchers to enjoy and plans to spend the money on part payment for a holiday next year.

The chief executive of The Hospital Group, David Ross, said: “Lisa was a natural choice, because in just a few months she has made a huge difference to the lives of our patients.  “She has helped and supported them no matter what time of day it was and has really shown a commitment to working with The Hospital Group. Our overriding mission is to provide an excellent patient experience and it’s great to see it being delivered so clearly. It is also vital we show our appreciation to our staff, especially during this period of economic uncertainty, ensuring morale is kept high.”

Tune Out to Cut Calories

Spending less time sitting in front of the TV can help Brits to lose weight a new study has shown.

New research has revealed that people whose viewing time was halved burned 244 more calories than they consumed each day. Another group whose TV time was not limited took in 57 calories more than they burned off.

Couch potatoes keen to shift the stones may want to consider having a consultation with The Hospital Group. As the UK’s leading weight loss surgery provider, The Hospital Group can offer a gastric band, gastric bypass or gastric balloon to those having trouble shifting stubborn excess weight.  The dramatic results can not only make you feel fantastic, but will also help you to lead a healthy lifestyle.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “At this time of year lots of people will be slumped in front of the TV, enjoying the festive period.  But as this study shows, getting away from the coach and being active goes a great way towards leading a healthy lifestyle.

“For many people being healthy and losing weight is lifelong battle, but opting for obesity surgery with The Hospital Group can finally free you from that struggle.  Obesity Surgery procedures can help people who have found losing weight difficult- as well as providing lasting results.   Our consultants ensure that, as well as having an absolute need for a gastric procedure, the patient understands that weight loss surgery isn’t a miracle cure and they would need to work with the band to achieve the healthier lifestyle they desire.”

Obesity Heart Risk Shock

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

A new poll has revealed that a shocking one in three heart disease deaths are a result of being overweight or obese.

A 10-year study involving 20,000 men and women aged 20 to 65 indicates that not staying slim triples the risk of dying. It was previously thought that being overweight only doubled the risk, instead of tripling it.

The Netherlands Heart Foundation study also found excess weight was to blame for one in seven non-fatal heart attacks.

Those worried by the health implications linked to obesity should consider a consultation with The Hospital Group.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Being overweight or obese can dramatically reduce your quality of life.

“Excess weight affects all aspects of people’s life and as these findings show, can ultimately end in an untimely death.

“Gastric procedures can help people who have struggled losing weight- as well providing lasting results.

“Our consultants ensure that, as well as having an absolute need for a gastric procedure, the patient understands that weight loss surgery isn’t a miracle cure and they would need to work with the band to achieve the healthier lifestyle they desire. “
