Surgeons Present Procedures of the Future

surgeon thumbnailA conference of the UK’s leading medical experts has seen surgeons from around the world present ground-breaking new procedures. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) annual conference in Cardiff is a forum for the industry to discuss developing trends and examine new procedures.

Results of the ongoing rise in male breast reduction surgery were reported, with an increasing number of men seeking ‘moob’ operations. Twenty-two men sought surgery nationwide in 2003, while last year 323 men went under the knife – almost one a day.

Past president of BAAPS, Dr Douglas McGeorge told the conference: “I get men come to me in their 50s and 60 who have never taken their t-shirts off in public before.”

The Hospital Group has seen a similar rise in male ‘moob’ procedures, with a massive 31 per cent rise in operations from 2007 to 2008.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, said: “Many men have body image problems and low self-esteem. They may have been teased at school or in the gym about the fat on their chests. The surgery we offer is fantastic because men see results so quickly, which gives them the confidence to get out there and live happier, healthier lifestyles.”

Doctors also discussed a new operation to restore ear lobes that have been stretched by fashion earrings, a no-knife nose job and a liposuction procedure specifically for ‘muffin tops’ – the roll of fat often pushed over the waistband of trousers.

The Hospital Group, one of the UK’s foremost cosmetic surgery providers and the biggest provider of gastric surgery, is at the leading edge of industry developments and strives to ensure patients are offered the very best in surgical care.
