‘Moobs’ get a lift as procedure figures rise

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

mirror-spread‘Moob’ reduction procedures have rocketed by more than 1,000 per-cent across the UK in the past five years. Figures announced earlier this week at the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) annual conference, revealed cosmetic surgery clinics have seen tremendous growth in Gynaecomastia or “male breast reduction” procedures.

BAAPS revealed that from just 22 procedures in 2003, the total has jumped to 323 in 2008. The increase of less than one operation a fortnight to almost one a day is said to be fuelled by a greater awareness of the condition as well as more men wanting that Adonis figure.

The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgery clinics saw a staggering 318 per cent increase in the number of ‘moob’ reduction procedures performed in 2008 compared to 2003.

Marrius Muller, a former gynaecomastia patient at The Hospital Group said: “Before surgery I used to hate seeing myself topless in the mirror. The surgery not only changed the way I felt about myself and body, but also how people perceive me. It gave me that added confidence which I lacked for so many years. Now, I can’t wait to get my top off on the beach.”

As well as the male breast reduction procedure, The Group also perform a number of other procedures helping men achieve that dream body, including gastric bands, abdominoplasty and liposuction.

Cosmetic Surgery Magazine: Lowri Ryland

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Lowri, from Caerphilly in Wales, sought rhinoplasty surgery from The Hospital Group after a bully taunted her profile on social networking site facebook.

The stunning brunette, 21, said: “I was so upset by the message. I could just imagine people talking about me and it really knocked my confidence.

“I’d always hated my nose. It was too big, a bit off-centre and had a big bump on it.”

Having saved up to pay for a boob job, Lowri instead decided to plump for a nose job following the cruel remarks online.

The operation in 2008 at The Hospital Group’s Dolan Park clinic in Bromsgrove has given Lowri a whole new outlook on life.

She said: “It was a few weeks after my surgery had healed that I bumped into the facebook bully on a night out. She apologised and said she didn’t think I would take it that far – but I’m glad she made those comments online.

“If she hadn’t written that message maybe I’d have never got it done and I’m so pleased I did.

“I’m much more confident now and happier in my own skin.”

Closer Magazine: Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

This summer, Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace went under the knife for a second time to boost her boobs to an ultra-curvy 32FF.

And the Big Brother 7 housemate is so pleased with the results that when asked which celebrity body she’d most like to have, her answer is immediate.

“My own!” she grins.  “When I first saw my new boobs I thought ‘I’ll topple over’ But I’m so happy with them now!”

But Aislyene, 30, adds “I won’t go bigger, I don’t want to look like a blow-up doll”.

Aisleyne who lives in Surrey had her first breast surgery six years ago, going from a 32B to a DD cup.  But she was desperate to go bigger and was unhappy with the wide gap between her implants so 3 months ago she had a second operation, this time with The Hospital Group.  Aisleyne chose top-of-the range Natrelle breast implants by Allergan.

What’s given Aisleyne a real confidence boost however, is the course of facial peels she had at the same time as her boob op.  Earlier this year, the reality star went through a difficult period writing her autobiography and the stress of recalling her troubled childhood caused her to break out in spots.

“My skin was really affecting my confidence” she says.  “It stopped me going out and I turned down modelling jobs”.

Her surgeon suggested a series of mild peels once a week for a month.

She says “I needed something dramatic to clear it up.  It tingled when the acid went on and my face felt tight and went a bit red, then 2 days later you get the peeling.  But the results were amazing.  Even the fine lines around my eyes have gone.”

Surgeons Present Procedures of the Future

Friday, September 25th, 2009

surgeon thumbnailA conference of the UK’s leading medical experts has seen surgeons from around the world present ground-breaking new procedures. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) annual conference in Cardiff is a forum for the industry to discuss developing trends and examine new procedures.

Results of the ongoing rise in male breast reduction surgery were reported, with an increasing number of men seeking ‘moob’ operations. Twenty-two men sought surgery nationwide in 2003, while last year 323 men went under the knife – almost one a day.

Past president of BAAPS, Dr Douglas McGeorge told the conference: “I get men come to me in their 50s and 60 who have never taken their t-shirts off in public before.”

The Hospital Group has seen a similar rise in male ‘moob’ procedures, with a massive 31 per cent rise in operations from 2007 to 2008.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, said: “Many men have body image problems and low self-esteem. They may have been teased at school or in the gym about the fat on their chests. The surgery we offer is fantastic because men see results so quickly, which gives them the confidence to get out there and live happier, healthier lifestyles.”

Doctors also discussed a new operation to restore ear lobes that have been stretched by fashion earrings, a no-knife nose job and a liposuction procedure specifically for ‘muffin tops’ – the roll of fat often pushed over the waistband of trousers.

The Hospital Group, one of the UK’s foremost cosmetic surgery providers and the biggest provider of gastric surgery, is at the leading edge of industry developments and strives to ensure patients are offered the very best in surgical care.

Celebs on Sunday: Daily Mirror Magazine – Are Gastric Bands the Answer?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Read stories for and against gastric band surgery.

Are gastric bands the answer?

As the nation’s obesity crisis escalates, the gastric band is an increasingly popular option.  NHS procedures are on the increase, with patients being fitted with gastric bands to improve other health conditions.  Recent estimates show that 10 per cent of NHS spending – £9 billion a year – goes on diabetes, strokes, kidney failure and other diseases caused by obesity and diabetes.

The cost of a gastric procedure can save the NHS money in the long run, as obese patients are increasingly seen as a “burden” on the system.

However, the over-stretched health service has already proved unable to cope with demand from Britain’s obese.

Such is the interest in leading gastric surgery provider The Hospital Group’s weight loss procedures, that bookings have increased to levels above that of the NHS.

While the NHS reported that it had performed 2,724 weight-loss operations in 2008, The Hospital Group performed a total of 3,015 gastric procedures in the same period.

Along with surgery partner Why Go Abroad, the huge number of operations booked with The Group reflects a growing trend of people forced into going private in their quest for a perfect, healthier body as the NHS buckles under the strain of demand.

The Hospital Group has seen a 73.9% increase in interest in weight loss surgery, with a staggering 12,848 people seeking surgery in 2008. In 2007, 7,385 people enquired into gastric procedures.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “As the nation becomes more and more aware of the benefit of gastric surgery it would seem that, despite the credit crunch, people seeking weight loss surgery are willing to spend more on private surgery to avoid long NHS waiting lists.

“If private surgery providers like The Hospital Group can support the NHS in improving the health of the nation, then that can only be a good thing. Our pre and post- surgical care is second-to-none with dedicated nutritionists and advisors to support gastric patients in the long-term.”

Hungary for Cosmetic Beauty Contest

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

A beauty contest celebrating plastic surgery enhancements is to be held in Hungary this year.

The’ Miss Plastic Surgery’ pageant which will judge contestants on their breast enlargements, liposuction and facelifts endeavours to boost the reputation of the plastic surgery industry in the country. Eligible candidates aged between 18 and 30 will have undergone at least one cosmetic procedure that requires general or local anesthesia and must submit their medical records to prove it.

Leading Hungarian plastic surgeons are to judge the event, which will see the winner be awarded with a brand new flat, the Telegraph reports.

The Hungarian contest comes as the UK sees a significant increase in the number of people undergoing cosmetic treatments. The Hospital Group one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgery provider saw an incredible 226 per cent increase in the number of non-surgical procedures performed in 2008. A total of 5,200 treatments were carried out across the group last year with treatments such as BOTOX®, hyperhidrosis and facial peels rising in popularity.

Surf’s Up Miss Britton!

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Ex- “This Morning” host and mother of four, Fern Britton, has been caught catching some surf in Cornwall this week, wearing a figure-hugging wet suit.

The presenter, who has appeared on our TV screens for the past decade, admitted earlier this year to having a gastric band fitted to help her lose weight.

Since undergoing surgery the band has helped Miss Britton lose a total of five stone, as well as drop a number of dress sizes.

Pictures this week showed the effect the band has had on Britton. Jogging down the Cornish beach with ease, wearing a wetsuit and body board in hand, Fern is definitely making the most of her new found energy.

Since revealing her weightloss secret, The Hospital Group, the UK’s leading obesity surgery provider, has seen an outstanding surge in demand for gastric bands, which has been appropriately named “The Fern Britton effect”.

The Group has seen a 73 per cent increase in the number of enquires made regarding weight loss surgery since 2008, making them bigger than the NHS.
